A retailer built around volume and expertise
Gameshop Twente is one of the largest game shops in the Netherlands, serving customers who actively buy, sell, and trade games. The store is particularly known for retro titles, carrying inventory that ranges from the earliest releases to the latest launches.
“All of the gamers in the Netherlands can come to Gameshop Twente and find something they like. The staff is highly experienced in the gaming world and can answer almost any question.”
– Joeri, Manager of Gameshop Twente
Because of that focus, customers do not just come to buy a single item. Many arrive with large collections to sell or trade in. Handling those transactions efficiently is a daily operational requirement, not an edge case.
When the existing system no longer matched store reality
Before Magestore POS, Gameshop Twente used a locally hosted POS and product database that was common among Dutch game shops. The webshop ran on a different platform, with inventory and pricing synced every five minutes.
Over time, this setup became limiting. The system was outdated and difficult to extend. Checkout and product handling were slower than needed, and the buyback flow required multiple steps that added up during busy hours.
“With the old system, the lack of speed was a major bottleneck for us. We have a lot of customers, and handling large buybacks simply took too long.”
— Joeri, Manager of Gameshop Twente
What Gameshop Twente needed from a new POS
When searching for a new POS system for Magento, the team focused on three practical criteria shaped by daily use:
- Customization to support processes specific to their business
- Ease of use so staff could work quickly, even under pressure
- Speed to handle high customer traffic
“Customization is the most important thing for us. We also need speed—just scan a product, do the payment, and be done,” said Joeri.
A Magento-native POS was the only option that allowed them to work directly inside their Magento setup without relying on connectors or delayed synchronization.
Implementing Magestore POS around real workflows
Gameshop Twente purchased Magestore POS in 2020 and went live later that year. The implementation focused on reducing time spent on the store’s most demanding tasks.
The team worked with Magestore to:
- Build a buyback flow optimized for bulk processing
- Use gift cards as a standard option for trade-in payouts
- Manage both store and webshop sales from a single Magento backend
“The system works like it should, and all the customizations we asked for work as intended,” Joeri noted.
How the store operates today
Magestore POS now supports the full transaction mix in-store. Roughly 70% of transactions are standard sales, while about 30% are buybacks. Gift cards are frequently used, especially when customers trade in items instead of taking cash.
Staff rely on faster product search, fewer clicks during checkout, and a backend view that shows all sales activity in one place.
“The sales checkout is much smoother now. Finding products is easier, which matters a lot when the store is busy,” Joeri explained.
The defining improvement: Buybacks at scale
With the previous system, scanning products during buybacks triggered multiple options and steps, which slowed the process significantly. Each additional item added friction.
With Magestore POS, staff can scan items continuously, reducing handling time to about one minute even for very large trade-ins.
“When we get a customer now that has say 100 games, previously it would take about 10 minutes. In the new system it would be within a minute.”
A clearer backend view of the business
Beyond speed, the team values the backend visibility they now have. Store sales and webshop sales are accessible in one interface, making it easier to switch contexts and respond when action is needed.
“We can easily see all the sales of the stores and all the sales of the webshop in one interface. It’s very clear.”
A frontend upgrade without disrupting in-store operations
After stabilizing in-store operations, Gameshop Twente upgraded their webshop to the Hyvä theme. The motivation was frontend-focused: Reduce development time and improve site speed.
“Hyvä helped us reduce frontend development time a lot, and everything continues to work well with the POS.”
- Frontend development time was cut by roughly 50%
- Site speed improved significantly
- Gift card functionality continued to work smoothly with Magestore POS
A long-term working relationship
Gameshop Twente has worked with Magestore for more than four years, valuing clear communication and reliable technical support.
”Magestore's support team is outstanding. They communicate clearly, respond promptly, and are always willing to schedule sessions at convenient times. During our POS testing and customization process, they stayed engaged every step of the way and made sure everything worked correctly before going live.

When Magestore POS is a good fit
Based on Gameshop Twente’s experience, Magestore POS is best suited for Magento merchants with established operations and more complex in-store workflows. For businesses handling high transaction volume, buybacks, or multiple locations, having a POS that can be customized and supported over time becomes increasingly important.
”For larger stores or businesses with more complex setups, Magestore POS makes sense. It’s a system that can support how we work as the business grows.
