How to setup Magento multiple stores

Sooner or later, you will want to create multiple stores/ multiple websites that share the same Magento installation, a common code base and backend, administration panel, product catalog... You can setup mutiple stores for Magento easily by following these simple steps as below:

Step 1: Log in to your store admin panel

Step 2: Create Categories

  • - Go to Catalog  >> Manage Categories.

  • - Click on "Add Root Category" button on the left:

  • - On the right, in Name field there,  enter the name of your stores (i.e. Magento Store 1).
  • - In the dropdown, set Yes for both ‘Is Active’ (in "General Information" tab) and ‘Is Anchor’ (in Display Setting tab)

  • -  Click on "Save Categories" button and wait for a minutes to go to next steps

Step 3: Configure your Magento Stores

  • - Go to the System >> Manage Stores

  • - Click on "Create Store" button

    • - In the "Website" field, pick the name of the website which you created before ( Magento Store 1).
    • - In the "Name" field , enter the name of your new store (i.e. Magento Store 1)
    • - Select a Root Category in the drop-down– the root category that will be used for this store
    • - Click on "Save Store" button

  • - Go to System >> Manage Stores >> Create Store View.

    • - In the "Store" field, pick the store to which this view will be associated with.
    • - In the "Name" field, enter a name of this store view (i.e. Magento Store 1).
    • - In the "Code" field, enter a unique code for this store view (please note that code may contain only letters (a-z), numbers (0-9) or underscore(_), without space)
    • - In the "Status" field, pick "enabled" for this store view to be accessible from our frontend, if not, pick "Disabled"
    • - Click on Save Store View button

Step 4: Store Configuration in the Server

  • - Go to System >>Configuration
  • - In the  "Current Configuration Scope" field, change the dropdown menu from ‘Default Config’ to your website

    • - Choose "Web" tab from the left sidebar
    • - Choose Under the Url options set Auto-Redirect to base URl to "No"

    • - Click on "Save Config" button
    • - Change the Default Config to the to newly created website’s view in the configuration scope and click Web
    • - For both the Unsecure and Secure Base URL (s) sections, uncheck the Use default box, and enter the URL for your store.
