Magento 2 payment methods

You have to learn about the product, marketing tool, managing orders in Magento 2, now we will go to the next category of Magestore Magento 2 tutorial: Magento 2 Payment. Payment is extremely important to every online business, all of your effort from attracting customers, persuade them to purchase will lead to payment. A bug that makes payment process don’t work correctly can make a business loss a lot of money, therefore, understand about payment configuration as well as know how to set up it is a mission that you can’t miss. In this very first post about Magento 2 payment, I will talk about Magento 2 payment methods!

Now, let’s dive in!

How many payment methods that Magento 2 supports?

In this post, I will only talk about the default Magento 2 payment methods, other methods I will talk in the next post, especially Paypal – a complicated method.

1 Check/money order
2 Cash on delivery
3 Bank Transfer
4 Purchase Order
5 Zero Subtotal Checkout

1.Check/money order

You can set up Check/money order is a default option  as a Magento 2 payment method that you can apply for your online store. You have right to set the Check/money order can accept only on some countries that you choose only and set the range of order value too.

To apply for Check/money order as a Magento 2 payment method, you can follow these steps:

Step1: 

You need to go to Configuration menu by click to Store and find under Setting menu.

Step2:

In the second panel in Configuration menu, click to Sale  and then choose Payment Method to see this menu:

Step3:

In this step, you need to expand  Check/Money Order section, and then :

You need to expand Check/money order to set the Enable to Yes to confirm that you want to use Check/Money order as a Magento 2 payment method.

  • Enter a Title to identify the Check / Money Order payment method during checkout.
  • Set New Order Status to “Pending” until receipt of payment is confirmed.
  • Set Payment from Applicable Countries to one of the following:
    •        All Allowed Countries: Customers from all countries specified in your store configuration can use this payment method.
            Specific Countries  :After choosing this option, the Payment from Specific Countries list appears. Select each country in the list where customers can make purchases from your store.
  • In the Make Check Payable To field, enter the name of the party to whom the check must be payable.
  • In the Send Check To field, enter the street address or PO Box where the checks are mailed.
  • Set Minimum Order Total and Maximum Order Total to the order amounts required to qualify for this payment method.
  • An order qualifies if the total falls between, or exactly matches, the minimum or maximum total values.
  • Enter a Sort Order number to determine the position of Check / Money Order in the list of Magento 2 payment methods that is shown during checkout. (0 = first, 1 = second, 2 = third, and so on.)

Step4:

You click Save Config to apply your configuration of Money/Check order.

2. Cash on delivery

  • What is Cash on delivery on Magento 2? It is COD! Like Money/Check order option you also can set your store just accept COD payment from some countries that you choose  as well as the maximum order value that will be accepted.
  • How this option works? Customers will pay for shipping carrier and carrier will bring money back to store owners. And you have to pay for carriers too, that is the reason why you can set a extra fee in check out page to notice your customers that how much they will pay for COD service.

If you want to set up COD as a Magento 2 payment method, you need to follow these steps:

1 Magento 2 Admin sidebar, click  to Stores,Configuration tab
2 you click Sales, select Payment Methods
3 You need to expand the Cash On Delivery Payment section to see all of configuration metrics

Step1:

You can go to Magento 2 Admin sidebar, click  to Stores. You can see that under Settings menu there is a  Configuration tab.

Step2:

You can see that there is a second menu on the left, you click Sales, select Payment Methods.

Step3:

  • You need to expand the Cash On Delivery Payment section to see all of configuration metrics then do:
  • Turn on Cash on Delivery mode by choose Yes in Enabled box.
  • Enter a Title to identify the COD payment method during checkout.
  • Set New Order Status to “Pending” until receipt of payment is confirmed.
  • Set Payment from Applicable Countries to one of the following:
  • All Allowed Countries: Customers from all countries specified in your store configuration can use this payment method.
  • Specific Countries:Select each country in the list where customers can make purchases from your store.
  • Enter Instructions for making a COD payment.
  • Set Minimum Order Total and Maximum Order Total to the order amounts that are required to qualify for COD payment.
  • An order qualifies if the total is between, or matches, the minimum or maximum order total.
  • Enter a Sort Order number to determine the sequence in which Cash On Delivery is listed with other payment methods during checkout. (0 = first, 1 = second, 2 = third, and so on.)
  • When you complete everything, click Save Config to confirm that COD is an enabled Magento 2 payment method on your store.

3.Bank Transfer

With this option, you accept payment that is transferred from a customer’s bank account and deposited into your merchant bank account.

To configure bank transfer payments you need to follow these steps:

1 On the Admin sidebar, tap Stores. Then under Settings, choose Configuration.
2 In the panel on the left, under Sales, choose Payment Methods.
3 Expand the Bank Transfer Payment section.
  • On the Admin sidebar, tap Stores. Then under Settings, choose Configuration.
  • In the panel on the left, under Sales, choose Payment Methods.
  • Expand the Bank Transfer Payment section. Then, do the following:
    • To activate bank transfers, set Enabled to “Yes.
    • Enter a Title to identify the Bank Transfer Payment method during checkout.
    • Set New Order Status to “Pending” until payment is authorized.
    • Set Payment from Applicable Countries to one of the following:
    • All Allowed Countries
    • Customers from all countries specified in your store configuration can use this payment method.
    • Specific Countries After choosing this option, the Payment from Specific Countries list appears. Select each country in the list where customers can make purchases from your store.
    • Enter the Instructions your customers must follow to set up a bank transfer. Depending on the country where your bank is located and the requirements of the bank, you might need to include the following information:
      • Bank account name
      • Bank account number
      • Bank routing code
      • Bank name
      • Bank address
    • Set Minimum Order Total and Maximum Order Total to the amounts required to qualify to use this payment method.
  • An order qualifies if the total falls between, or exactly matches, the minimum or maximum total values.
  • Enter a Sort Order number to determine the position of Bank Transfer in the list of payment methods during checkout. (0 = first, 1 = second, 2 = third, and so on.)
  • When complete, tap Save Config .

4.Purchase Order

  • A purchase order (PO) allows commercial customers to pay for authorized purchases by referencing the PO number. The purchase order is authorized and issued in advance by the company that is making the purchase. During checkout, the customer chooses Purchase Order as the method of payment. Upon receipt of your invoice, the company processes the payment in their accounts payable system, and pays for the purchase.
  • Before accepting payment by purchase order, always establish the credit worthiness of the commercial customer.
  • To configure payment by purchase order:
  • On the Admin sidebar, tap Stores. Then under Settings, choose Configuration.
  • In the panel on the left, under Sales, choose Payment Methods.
  • Expand the Purchase Order section. Then, do the following:
    • To activate this payment method, set Enabled to “Yes.”
    • Enter a Title to identify this payment method during checkout.
    • Set New Order Status to “Pending” until payment is authorized.
    • Set Payment from Applicable Countries to one of the following:
  • All Allowed Countries
  • Customers from all countries specified in your store configuration can use this payment method. Specific Countries After choosing this option, the Payment from Specific Countries list appears. Select each country in the list where customers can make purchases from your store.
    • Set Minimum Order Total and Maximum Order Total to the amounts required to qualify for this payment method. An order qualifies if the total falls between, or exactly matches, the minimum or maximum total values.
    • Enter a Sort Order number to determine the position of Purchase Order in the list of payment methods during checkout. (0 = first, 1 = second, 2 = third, and so on.)
  • When complete, tap Save Config .

5.Zero Subtotal Checkout

Zero Subtotal Checkout is a Magento 2 payment method that available only for orders created from the Admin, and can be used for orders with a subtotal of zero that are taxed after a discount is applied. For example, Zero Subtotal Checkout might be used in the following situations:

  • A discount covers the entire price of the purchase, with no additional charge for shipping.
  • The customer adds a downloadable or virtual product to the shopping cart, and the price equals zero.
  • The price of a simple product is zero, and the Free Shipping method is available.
  • A coupon code covers the full price of products and shipping

To save time, zero subtotal orders can be set to invoice automatically.

1 On the Admin sidebar, tap Stores. Then under Settings, choose Configuration.
2 In the panel on the left, under Sales, select Payment Methods
3 Click to expand the Zero Subtotal Checkout section.
4 When complete, tap Save Config .
  • On the Admin sidebar, tap Stores. Then under Settings, choose Configuration.
  • In the panel on the left, under Sales, select Payment Methods.
  • Click to expand the Zero Subtotal Checkout section. Then, do the following:
    • Enter a Title to identify the Zero Subtotal method during checkout.
    • Set Enabled to “Yes” to activate Zero Subtotal Checkout.
    • If orders typically wait for authorization, set New Order Status to “Pending” until payment
      is authorized.
  • Pending The order is waiting for authorization.
  • Processing Payment has been authorized, and the transaction is being processed.
    • Set Automatically Invoice All Items to “Yes” if you want to automatically invoice all items that have a zero balance.
    • Set Payment from Applicable Countries to one of the following:
  • All Allowed Countries :Customers from all countries specified in your store configuration can use this payment method
  • Specific Countries : After choosing this option, the Payment from Specific Countries list appears. Select each country in the list where customers can make purchases from your store.
    • Enter a Sort Order number to determine the position of Zero Subtotal Checkout in the list of payment methods during checkout. (0 = first, 1 = second, 2 = third, and so on.)
  • When complete, tap Save Config .
